About Us

Our Journey and Vision

Agape Love Charity was founded in response to the pressing needs of vulnerable communities in Dzaleka Refugee Camp and beyond. Our journey began with a mission to bring hope, education, and sustainable development to those displaced from their homes. Today, we remain committed to empowering individuals through innovative programs that foster independence, dignity, and self-sufficiency.

Our mission is simple yet profound: Empowering Vulnerable Populations. We achieve this by providing access to education, humanitarian aid, and economic empowerment initiatives, while nurturing spiritual growth and community engagement.

We envision a world where displaced and marginalized individuals have equal access to education, sustainable livelihoods, and spiritual fulfillment, creating thriving, self-reliant communities.

What We Believe In

  • Compassion: We act with empathy and kindness to support those in need.
  • Integrity: We uphold transparency and accountability in everything we do.
  • Empowerment: We equip individuals with skills and resources to transform their lives.
  • Collaboration: We work hand-in-hand with communities and partners to create lasting change.

15th July, 2023 — A Vision is Born

Inspired by strong humanitarian values and a spirit of leadership, Miriam Samba Martine, founded Agape Love Charity Organization. Driven by a desire to uplift the lives of underprivileged populations within and around the camp, her vision took root on 15th July, 2023.

Dzaleka Refugee Camp — Our Starting Point

Located in Dowa District, about 50km from Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, Dzaleka Camp was established in 1994 to host refugees from Burundi, Rwanda, and the DRC. Initially planned for 10,000 people, the camp now shelters over 51,000 individuals — many of whom face extreme poverty, malnutrition, and a lack of opportunities.

A Mission with Heart and Urgency

Ninety percent of the camp’s population relies on food aid from the World Food Program (WFP). Hunger, stress, and hopelessness have led many young people into drug use and destructive habits as coping mechanisms. Agape Love Charity is working to break this cycle by introducing hope, skills, and purpose.

A Solution Rooted in Action

ALCO is committed to:

  • Combating harmful practices like drug abuse.

  • Creating development projects that empower youth and women.

  • Promoting education and training to unlock self-sufficiency.

  • Building bridges between refugee and local communities to foster peace, cohesion, and mutual respect.

Our Identity

  • Legal Status: Officially recognized by local authorities in Dowa District.

  • Headquarters: New Katubza, Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

  • Neutral and Inclusive: Not affiliated with any political, religious, or ethnic group — though supported by individuals from all walks of life.

Our Model

We intentionally remain a modest-sized nonprofit, backed by private donors. Our approach is:

  • Hands-on and Community-Driven: Field teams operate directly with beneficiaries.

  • Transparent and Efficient: Resources are directed exclusively toward the vulnerable.

  • Sustainable and Accountable: We empower local leadership and closely monitor our impact.

Today and Beyond

Agape Love Charity is more than a name — it's a movement of compassion that believes every life deserves dignity, opportunity, and love. We continue to walk this path hand in hand with our supporters and beneficiaries, lighting a flame of hope in every heart we reach.
